Internship PrepOnce you’ve been put in contact with your manager for the summer, ask them if there are skills or tools you should learn before starting. This question shows initiative and also gives you the chance to start making an impact as soon as your internship begins. If your manager mentions anything that you’re unfamiliar with, dedicate some time in the spring to learn or brush up on those skills. Some great ways to do that are Codecademy courses, YouTube tutorials, documentation, and playing around with the technology yourself.
RelocationIf you’re moving to a new city for the internship, utilize all of the relocation benefits/resources that your company offers. These may include stipends, reimbursements, shuttle buses, free flights, etc. The company may also have a guide to finding housing in the city. Consider your commute when choosing a neighborhood, as a terrible daily commute will consume a lot of your free time throughout the summer.
