HireVue is a service that companies use to conduct asynchronous video interviews. While there can be technical components, HireVue interviews usually consist of 3-5 behavioral questions. You’ll be able to practice a question before the real ones begin to get familiar with the software. Here’s how each question works:
Prep TimeYou’ll get 30 seconds of prep time to read the question and prepare your answer. Take all of this time to outline the things you want to say.
Answer the QuestionLook at your computer’s camera as you talk. Speak confidently and clearly. If you make a mistake, correct yourself and keep going. Use most (if not all) of the allotted time. When you’re done, hit the “end recording” button without trailing off or saying “so yeah…” or “ummm.”
Second ChanceSometimes you’ll have the chance to restart and record your answer again. If you messed up the first time, go for it! But, you only get two chances per question, so the second one will have to be good.
Preparation
Before you start the HireVue, review your answers to common behavioral questions (see our list in the Behavioral Interview section). Keep that document pulled up on your screen so you can reference it when you see each question. Remember to use the STAR format for applicable questions, and try to make your stories interesting and personable. The more you stand out, the better.
