In-Person interviews have been very rare since Covid, and are generally only used for final-round interviews at some financial firms. If a company invites you to their offices, you’re very close to getting the job. They want to make sure that you’re personable, friendly, and someone that they’ll want to have around the office. Although they probably won’t need it, it’s a good idea to bring a few hard copies of your resume/CV to the interview.

What to WearYou should dress nicely, but not overly formally. For men, a button-down shirt and khakis are typically appropriate, although it depends widely on the company. For women, a pair of trousers and nice shirt should be sufficient. A quick Google search should give you an idea of the company’s level of formality.

Importantly, do not wear a suit to an interview for a tech company (and very likely to any interview at all). When Amazon was getting off the ground, Jeff Bezos conducted interviews and reportedly hated when applicants wore a suit to their interview because he viewed it as bad judgment. So the idea that you can never dress too nicely is plain wrong. Most software companies are fairly casual, so even if you wear a t-shirt and shorts you’re unlikely to be burned by your outfit.

However, that rule does not apply to all companies. If you’re looking at roles at financial companies, law firms, or consulting groups, to name a few, you will most likely have to dress more formally.
